The challenge:
The Dutch healthcare system was breaking. Aging population, personnel shortages, rising costs, and skyrocketing waiting times created a massive "care gap." The traditional model organized care around institutions and professionals, not around patients and their actual needs.
A healthcare provider CEO had a vision: flip the model. Put patients in the driver's seat. Let them arrange their own care when and how they need it. Connect them directly to the right healthcare providers based on personal needs, not organizational boundaries.
The problem? Turning that vision into reality required building an entirely new platform from scratch.
Our approach:
Business Models Inc. co-founded VIEF as a joint venture to make this vision real.
We started with discovery, interviewing patients, nurses, doctors, and suppliers to map the entire value chain. Then we designed the patient experience: customer journey maps, service blueprints, and the platform dynamics that would make personalized care possible.
Working with a digital partner, we:
Built wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes.
Ran in-market experiments with patients and home care nurses.
Validated concepts and platform functionality through rapid iteration.
Launched a pilot in the East of Netherlands with real patients, professionals, and suppliers.
This was more than just consulting. We co-built the business, the platform, and the go-to-market strategy.
The outcome:
Within two years, the pilot showed promising results. VIEF is now scaling: upgrading technology, onboarding healthcare providers across the country, and building the team to deliver personalized healthcare nationwide.
From vision to working platform to scaling operations, all built on patient-centered design and platform business model thinking.
