Value Proposition Design: coming this Fall

Value Proposition Design: coming this Fall

In 2009 the first copy of Business Model Generation was sold. Now, 5 years later, more than 1 million copies of the book have been sold worldwide, it has been translated into 30 different languages and there are more than 5 million Business Model Canvas users. This Fall, it’s time for the sequel, a new book by Alex Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur: Value Proposition Design.

Why a new book?

Patrick van der Pijl, CEO of Business Models Inc. has been on the team of pre-readers since the start of the book and has contributed with practical business modeling and value proposition issues he has been facing with his clients. ‘The Value Proposition’ is one of the most important building blocks in the Business Model Canvas, but it’s also one of the most complex ones. You can easily spend days on only defining the value you offer to clients. With this book you get templates, tools and exercises to really start working with it in a simple way.”

Why Value Proposition Design?

Value Proposition Design will help you successfully design, test and deliver what customers want. It helps you systematically understand customers and create offers that perfectly match their needs. You will be able to organize information about what customers want in a simple way. As a result you will more effectively design value propositions and profitable business models that directly target your customers’ most pressing and important jobs, pains and gains. The tool equips your team with a shared language to overcome ‘blah blah blah’, conduct more strategic conversations and get aligned. It avoids waisting time with ideas that don’t work and helps you to test the most important hypotheses and assumptions in order to reduce the risk of failure.

The Value Proposition Canvas

The Value Proposition Canvas is the tool at the center of the book. It makes value propositions visible and tangible and thus easier to discuss and manage. It perfectly integrates with the Business Model Canvas and the Environment Map (at Business Models Inc. we use the Context Canvas), two tools which are discussed in detail in Business Model Generation. Together they shape the foundation of a suite of business tools for strategy and innovation.

Masterclass and Book Launch

Just like Business Model Generation, the Value Proposition Design-book will be launched in Amsterdam, The Netherlands with a 1-day Masterclass and Book Launch with Alex Osterwalder on November 25th. Besides that, Alex organizes Launch Events worldwide with online Q&A sessions during the week of October 20-26th.
